Maria Berta, SPHR, leads the HR and Recruiting practice. Formerly an HR Director for a national engineering firm, she has vast experience building firm structure and culture from the ground up. She has sourced and staffed entire engineering practices, opened new branch locations, and reorganized and streamlined HR departments. She works with numerous types of companies from tech start-ups, manufacturers, architecture firms, restaurant groups and more. She has experience working with companies of varying sizes, from start-ups to international firms. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Maria has 20+ years of experience creating targeted HR solutions for her clients. With specialized expertise in California labor law, Ms. Berta has clients in many states and is qualified to practice in all 50 states.

Maria worked with CEO and Founder, Peter Rumsey for 20 years. She Co-Founded this new design firm specializing in affordable, low energy, sustainable and net zero buildings. Maria built a premier workforce of the area's top engineering talent. She oversaw all operations of the firm from HR, finance, contracts, licensing to marketing. She was responsible for management of accounting, hiring, insurance, qualifications, and vendor and client management. PEI started with 3 people in a tiny Oakland office in 2011 and grew to a firm of 12 with an SF office and revenue growth of 300% in 3 years. She was thrilled to Co Found Point Energy Innovations which will redefine the simple and cost effective delivery of net zero and high performance buildings with better health and comfort for the occupants and higher returns for building owners and developers.

Rumsey Engineers, which was later acquired by Integral Group, Maria drove start-up and growth of firm specializing in sustainability and energy efficiency by meeting business objectives, building a strong employee culture, and aligning with vision of the founder. Implemented company infrastructure and positioned firm for future growth. Rumsey Engineers was acquired by Integral Group in 2008.
National position developing and managing HR program in 6 U.S. offices. Steered foundation and growth of 2 satellite offices. Directed the employee aspects of the acquisition by a global firm and the merger and acquisition of a 2nd firm. Built an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasized engagement, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. Minimized attrition, increased retention and engagement, combined benefit platforms, integrated systems, managed HR platform merger of the firms, expanded and standardized employee programs and procedures across U.S. Married employee culture and programs to firm mission of sustainability and energy efficiency.
